Elemental Masters are not a mystery. They have existed since the beginning of time, of course common people know about them. The point is how they (commons) know about them and the different ways they (EM) are perceived.

Most EMs that are known to the public tend to protect a place. Their home village, an island, a temple, etc. And each of them is perceived differently. The one who protects their village is seen as a warrior. Who protects the island is a cryptid. And who protects the temple is a monk.

The main gang it's the closest thing ordinary people have to superheroes. Protecting an entire city (the capital of the world). And keeping their identities secret.

There are also elemental masters who don't dedicate themselves to fighting or protecting a place, and instead lead mostly normal lives.

Skylor is known to other EMs and people close to them but not to the general public, and running the noodle shop is her preference. Tox doesn't seem to be active on the battlefield, but most of her neighbors are likely aware of her status.

It also appears that most of the elemental masters who are known to the public do not hide their identities, probably because protecting/fighting is not their main job, unlike the main gang who prefer to maintain two separate lives.
